2019 Elections: Group Petitions U.S Embassy Over Atiku’s Visa Status

A group named the Leadership and Accountability Initiative has sent a correspondence to the U.S Embassy seeking for the actual status of Atiku Abubakar’s Visa.

The former Vice President of Nigeria who some days ago accused President Muhammadu Buhari of being barred from entering the U.S for 15 years had a group seeking for the real situation with his Visa.

The group in a letter signed and dated 4th December requested the U.S Embassy to provide the details of the Visa of the Presidential Aspirant who yesterday announced his defection to the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP in a now viral Facebook video post.

The group which had in July this year, written to the US Department of Justice to request information on Atiku’s involvement in the Halliburton scandal that eventually had former congressman William J. Jefferson’s convicted for 13 years told journalists in Abuja today that their interest is in sanitizing the political space and helping to hold leaders, past and present accountable for their times in office.

The group also stated that, for Nigeria to achieve true greatness and fulfill its potentials as one of the world’s most blessed nations, leaders seeking office must have their pasts properly and comprehensively scrutinized. This, they believe will help clean up the political space and give room to noble men and women to seek to serve.

The group has thereby petitioned the U.S Embassy to know the problem with the former Vice President’s Visa and have a detailed explanation of why he’s being denied a pass into their country.

Atiku Abubakar is vying to be Nigeria’s President and has publicly declared his ambition as events take shape for the 2019 elections.
