David Aiyedogbon has dismissed rumours on the death of his ex-wife Charity Aiyedogbon.
He however called on the police and relevant authorities to investigate the matter, as he is upbeat she is still alive.
Mr. Aiyedogbon made this declaration, while speaking to journalists in Abuja on Monday, adding that Charity left his home since 2014 following their divorce, abandoning their four grown up children to him.
He further stated that sustained efforts to locate her whereabouts in a bid to bring her back home has been futile, despite getting regular reports that she was seen in several happening places in the city of Abuja.
It will be recalled that some weeks back, one Emeka Ugwuonye, a US based lawyer, took it upon himself to spread news about the death of Charity on social media.
Aiyedogbon debunked the claims, saying “if Charity was dead and he was able to find her corpse, why has he not reported to the police to that an autopsy could be done on the corpse?”
According to him, since after their divorce, Charity has been desperate to extort money and property from him, by writing false petitions to the anti-graft agencies claiming he owns numerous bank accounts, where he starches stolen government funds and laundering the said money on properties across Nigeria and abroad.
However, investigations carried out by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, ICPC found no evidence of the alleged money laundery and dismissed the petition.
In another instance, Aiyedogbon claimed Charity made gambits to extort over N150 million as compensation for drop charges against him, a move he dishonoured.
On allegation that she was missing, Aiyedogbon said neither him nor any member of Charity’s family was aware, emphasizing that she was declared missing on social media by one of her friends, which according to him was a scheme to achieve a pre-meditated end by Charity and her friends.
“They want money and property from me, that’s why they’re doing all these. She has gone to ICPC and failed. She went to court and failed and now she and her friends are making other plots to get what they want,” Aiyedogbon said.
The 40 year old Charity was declared missing by her friends on May 10, 2016.
However, a forensic examination made by an investigator who worked with the police on the case claims Charity was still making and receiving calls days and weeks after she was declared missing.
The investigator also confirmed that her phone was used by some men who may be helping her in the plot, which signifies she deliberately went into hiding.
In addition, Aiyedogbon said he had petitioned the Inspector General of Police and the relevant authorities on the matter, seeking protection for himself and their four children.
Since then, the police have made seven arrest in connection with her disappearance including one Nsikak Udoh, her lawyer suspected to be part of the plot.
