Nigeria Elections
One of the newly registered political parties, Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party (ANRP), has urged Nigerians to take the 2019 general elections as a must do affair if the country must be rescued from its present state of mismanagement of resources, drift and echoes of wars.
In a cursory assessment of the state of the nation, after the birth of the Fourth Republic in 1999, the Lagos chapter of ANRP flayed the present and previous managers of the democratic system, saying the Nigerians have not really benefited the dividends of democracy in the last 19 years.
Making the position during its congress in Lagos over the weekend where it elected new officers, the state Chairman, Mr. Biodun Dabiri challenged Nigerians not to continue to lament the state of the nation but should rather take their destiny in their hands by participating fully in the ongoing Permanent Voters Registration (PVC) that would enable them vote right representatives in government come 2019.
According to him, “Although, ANRP has broken record with over 40, 000, which has registered online but the battle ahead is not about registering online, neither it is a fight that would be fought through the social media but it is about taking the pains to collect your PVC and also vote.”
The party decried the present state of Nigeria’s infrastructure, which the erstwhile ruling People Democratic Party (PDP) was unable to fix within the 16 years it ruled and likewise there is no hope that the incumbent ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC) would perform any magic. He said, “ANRP is ready to provide good leadership for the country if elected into power both at the centre and states in 2019.”
The party also expressed commitment to change Nigeria, Lagos precisely, to an enabling environment for growth and development, free of dirt and one habitable for both young and old.
The party added it would turn Lagos into an environment free of burglary, theft and it likes, which it intends to achieve with free environmental orientations and education, tree planting, recycling processes, cleanups and environmental sanitation which the party shall sponsor from time to time.
Part of the aims and objectives of the party is to run an inclusive government, especially a gender balance type. It also pledged women and youth participation in politics as part of its utmost concern.Some of the officers elected include, Vice Chairman, Olalekan Oshodi; General Secretary, Francis Chilaka; State Publicity Secretary, Yetunde T. Adekunle and others.The 22-member executive comprises of 18 males and four females.
