Mace Theft: Omo-Agege Faces Expulsion From Senate

There are indications that Senator Ovie Omo-Agege could be expelled from the Senate of Nigeria, a source has told our correspondent.

The expulsion is contained in a report of the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges which indicted the senator representing Delta Central in the theft of the Mace by five hoodlums on April 18.

It would be recalled that five men sighted with the senator who is on suspension had invaded the Senate plenary and bolted away with the Mace as senators and Nigerians watched in shock.

Besides his imminent expulsion, he be recommended for prosecution

A source who asked not to be named in Abuja said that the decision has been reached in “order to save guard democracy and the legislature.”

Omo-Agege’s trouble started when he alleged that the election sequence re-ordering bill was targeted at President Muhammadu Buhari, a claim that was kicked against by most senators, especially Dino Melaye who raised it on the floor of the upper chamber.
