Advocates for Transparency and Accountability (ATA) and Peoples Alliance for Indigenous Rights (PAIR) have urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to look into the activity of self-appointed anti-corruption crusader, Mr. George Uboh, over some of his claims.
Ubo, CEO of Panic Alert Security System (PASS), claimed he is being owed over $44million from judgment debts by the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF), as well as accusing Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti state of demanding gratification from him.
Uboh accused the governor of demanding 10 per cent of a certain $47.8 million, being a “Consent Judgment” entered into by the Nigeria Governor’s Forum and a company, Panic Alert Security Systems.
A claim which the NGF chair vehemently denied.
The groups also pointed out that in 2019, Uboh was remanded in prison for defaming the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, of fraud.
“Note that Mr Uboh was arrested as he was leaving the court after being granted bail in another matter over false accusation.
“We have been made aware that he is planning to defame an ex-governor thinking he will always get away with it.”
The coalition in a statement in Abuja on Sunday cautioned that allowing Uboh to “run rogue” was embarrassing and inimical to the anti-graft war.
“We call on the EFCC to act on the spurious allegations thrown all over the place by Mr. George Uboh. It is worrying that a man that can brazenly claim that he is being owed $44m, accuse a sitting governor and many other influential Nigerians of wrongdoing while he is the only saint send a wrong signal,” Danladi Adamu and Mustapha Isa for the groups stated.
It would be recalled that the groups in April said, “enough is enough” and threatened to drag the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Mallam Abubakar Malami, SAN, Uboh and other acclaimed creditors if they continue to insist on being paid for services not rendered.
The groups said it is curious that Uboh was yet to release the letter of engagement he claims to have from the NGF several months after they challenged him to do so.
“We had challenged Dr. Uboh to make public the letter of his engagement by the Nigerian Governors Forum because we are aware that when he was engaged on June 15, 2014 it was explicitly stated that “your consultancy remuneration will be determined by the Governors,” but we are surprised that till date, Mr. Uboh is yet to take up our challenge.”
According to them, Uboh’s consultancy was terminated in December 2014 as he failed to adhere to his terms of engagement, therefore lacks any claims to any payment.
“It is not enough for Uboh and his co-travellers to continue to rabble rouse in the media when the courts are there. If he were so sure of his facts, he should simply approach the courts and seek for redress. All these grandstanding amounts to nothing. We therefore urge him to desist from the mudslinging and nebulous claims of being owed some phantom millions or be ready to meet us in court,” Adamu and Isa warned.
