Assistant Inspector-General of Police in Charge of Zone C, Samuel Ogunjemi, has warned politicians in Ebonyi State to play by the rules during the 2019 general elections.
Ogunjemi gave the warning yesterday in Abakaliki while addressing stakeholders and various ethnic groups in the state.
The AIG, who opined that there would be nothing like federal might in the state in the conduct of the 2019 general elections, said the police would be very neutral and deal decisively with any politician who engages in violence and use federal might to intimidate his opponent.
He, therefore, gave the assurance that the police in the state would do everything possible to ensure violent-free elections next year.
In another development, a faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Imo State has suspended the state chairman, Peter Ezeobi.
In his position, the Deputy Chairman of the party in the state, Dr. Chima Nwosu, was named to run the affairs of the party until further notice.
In a resolution signed by eight persons and read by the state Assistant Publicity Secretary of the party, Pastor Kenneth Onyenagoro, they accused Ezeobi of indulging in many activities that led to his inability to conduct party primaries and financial improprieties.
But in his reaction, Ezeobi regarded his opponents as jokers, exhibiting “unreasonable and irresponsible attitude”.
“They are jokers. They are entitled to talk nonsense. They are not members of my party. They say they are members of New APGA. Their action is unreasonable and irresponsible.”
