Suspected Boko Haram terrorists, Monday night, launched attack on Kanamma, in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.
Kalamu Sani, a resident of Damaturu told our reporter that many locals may have lost their lives.
Kanamma is the former base of the sect, where its original founder, Mohammed Ali was killed in a shootout with the police before the emergence of Mohammed Yusuf, who was arrested during the July 2009 crisis and later died in police custody.
They had earlier attacked a police station in Kannamma, during which they cartered away several arms and ammunition. The attack, which occurred on Sunday at about 9:00pm, left many people injured.
The Yobe State Police Commissioner, Mr. Chika Maidam, who spoke to newsmen in Damaturu also confirmed attack.
He said “the insurgents, who came in their numbers, attacked the Divisional Police Station. Three of my men were injured during the raid but have been treated at the Geidam General Hospital and discharged.”
Maidam, however, said that there was no life lost during the attack.
