EgyptAir resumed a flight to Beijing from Cairo after a bomb threat that forced an emergency landing in Uzbekistan proved to be a “false” alarm, the airline said in a statement.
No explosive was found on the Airbus A330-200 with 118 people on board, the Egyptian airline said. Uzbek security authorities declared the plane safe after evacuating all passengers and crew and searching the aircraft. Airport officials in Cairo received the threat three hours after the plane’s departure, leading to the diversion to Urgench International Airport.
The incident comes amid heightened sensitivity after an EgyptAir plane crashed into the Mediterranean last month killing all 66 on board. The search for the black boxes continues and the reasons for the crash remain unclear. In March, an EgyptAir flight was hijacked to Cyprus by a man claiming to be wearing an explosive belt, but later found to be unarmed.
