Imo PDP to uphold internal democracy

The Chairman, Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Charles Babatunde Ezekwem, has assured party faithful that his executive would not engage in handpicking of candidates.

Ezekwem also promised not to impose any candidate at the peril of other aspirants in any of the contestable political offices.

Speaking at the party secretariat over the weekend, the chairman also gave the assurance to receive any aggrieved politician wishing to rejoin the PDP fold, stressing that he would ensure that a level playing field would be extended to any returnee.

According to him, “I want to restate for emphasis that the PDP in Imo will not condone the old habit of pre-election selection, writing of lists or imposition of any sort. These vices orchestrated the problems we had in the years past.”

He said the party had inaugurated ‘Integrity Group’ at some strategic cities to lead its growth in the state, while he pleaded with PDP members who left to join other parties he described as social clubs cum political parties “during the time of our restructuring, to please return home.”

He added that under his watch, the decisions of the National Executive Council (NEC), of the party would be adhered to strictly, saying the activities of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Imo is embarrassing.
